Glass jars for decoration or food use
Glass food storage jars are a great way to reduce plastic in your kitchen and reduce your exposure to harmful endocrine disrupting chemicals that can leach into our food through plastic containers. We have gathered our favourite glass food storage jars for plastic free food storage that we have collected over the years.
Glass food storage jars are the perfect solution to all your kitchen organisation needs, while looking beautiful and helping you create a plastic-free kitchen. Over the years we have collected many glass jars for spice and food storage and have shared our favourites to help you create a beautiful and organised plastic-free kitchen and pantry.
My obsession with using glass jar began when I decided to give up using plastic for food storage altogether, which proved to leach chemicals into our food - especially if the plastic containers were heated or in direct sunlight.
Glass food storage jars ended up being one of the best alternatives to storing our food in plastic, as they can be used and cleaned indefinitely and are relatively affordable to buy in bulk, which is what I need for all my pantry and everyday food. I also love how pretty glass jars find storage space and like that you can always see exactly how much of any item you have left in your pantry.
There are so many ways to repurpose and preserve glass jar with lid you've purchased from the grocery shop, or you can find them at your local antique or thrift shop! By far, this would be the most economical way to switch to all glass food storage jars, and is a great starting point for those who just want to start transitioning from plastic containers to glass or other reusable containers.
There's nothing more annoying than trying to cook but not being able to find the spices you need due to a cluttered spice cabinet. Not to mention the duplication you'll find when you inevitably end up taking all your spices out and organising them without knowing it.
To help with the spice cupboard organisation dilemma, I like to store all my spices in the same glass jar and refill it as needed. You can get fancy and add custom labels, or even use oil-based markers to write directly on the glass.
As everyone uses different spices for cooking, I recommend that you go through your spice cabinet and list all the spices you use so you know exactly how many glass spice jars and labels you need.
You can really use any glass jar to store dry food but I like to use ComSaf 20 oz glass jars. The 4 inch wide spout design ensures easy scooping, is perfect for filling the pantry and is very easy to stack, which in my opinion is absolutely key to an organised and space saving pantry. They are also beautiful, all arranged in the pantry, which helps to justify the higher price point of these jars.
